A day of support for Ingrid Betancourt was held on 4th September in Albenc, Isère, France.

Astrid Betancourt, sister of Ingrid Betancourt attended. She recalled that Ingrid, the former presidential French-Colombian candidate has now been held for over three and half years.

According to unofficial reports, Ingrid is in good health and Astrid Betancourt wants to remain optimistic:

" Things could develop in the coming weeks. We have an excellent opportunity at this moment, due to the official opening of the presidential campaign for the elections in May 2006. It is thought that politically, President Uribe will not make any more new decisions from the beginning of the month of January: nothing happens in December in Colombia; so a firm and decisive action is called for between the beginning and the end of the month of November.

In this regard, the French government in this regard has already initiated action; it is being developed, and we hope indeed that we are on the home stretch!"
