Alfonso López Miechelsen, former President of Colombia, recently recalled the failed attempt to free the Governor of Antioquia, Guillermo Gaviria and former Minister for Defence, Gilberto Echeverri, by military means.

The armed intervention led to the assassination of the hostages by FARC. According to Lopez Miechelsen a negotiated solution must be found.

Yesterday the former President repeated that the only way to obtain the liberation of all the hostages was through talks.

López Miechelsen stated this at the launch of the book called "Diary of a Kidnapped Governor" that reproduces the letters sent by the assassinated Governor to his family from where he was held hostage.
