Peace Commissioner Luis Carlos Restrepo refused to identify members of the commission or provide their nationalities, saying discretion was vital for negotiations to succeed.
“They basically share our interest in producing immediate results to put an end to the hostages’ suffering,’’ Restrepo told reporters. “We are very pleased to work with the international community to move forward on a humanitarian accord.’’
Last week, Restrepo met with officials in France and Switzerland to discuss how those countries might help mediate a prisoner swap.
Colombia’s main rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, wants to exchange 59 hostages — including politicians, military personnel and three U.S. Defense Department contractors — for imprisoned guerrillas.
