Reporters Without Borders voiced dismay today that Germán Hernández Vera, the managing editor of the regional Diario del Huila daily newspaper in the southwestern city of Neiva, was forced to flee the region this month after being repeatedly threatened. It is the second case of forced flight by a journalist since the start of the year

On the eve of a visit by President Bush, the U.S. Embassy confirmed Saturday that American and Colombian soldiers had conducted a joint operation in the southern stronghold of leftist rebels who are holding three U.S. military contractors.
3/10/2007 : Colombia: FARC guerrilla group free two policemen
Marxist guerrilla group FARC has released two policemen who had been captured at an illegal ambush month ago. The two men were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross at FARC’s request according to the Red Cross.
3/9/2007 : Bush visits Latin America.
President Bush is heading to Latin America where he will visit Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico. It is a courtesy visit when he will discuss inequality and poverty. It’s a noticeable change in tone; for the last 6 years he has only talked about the fight against terrorism and economic agreements.
