Couleurfrance.net : a message every two hours for Ingrid Betancourt

6/1/2007 - Le Monde, Univision

Couleurfrance.net web radio of French people living abroad will broadcast every tow hours a message remembering that Ingrdi Betancourt and other hostages are still held by Farc; this was announced last Friday.

From 28 May, 24/7 couleurfrance.net will be of service to ‘raise awareness” among French citizens all over the world but especially those living in Colombia.

The radio message invites listeners “ not to forget Ingrid Betancourt who is deprived of her freedom for nearly six years” and to do as much as they can by “paying attention to the smallest detail, the slightest thing that could link them to her”.

“That is why we are sending this message”, said Michel Garnier, head of the radio, who wishes “to show his support in a practical way”.

The aim of this gesture is to “raise ongoing awareness. There’s nothing better than constant repetition” he added.

Michel Garnier contacted the Ingrid Betancourt support committees who accepted the offer. “It is in keeping with international actions that we organize”, explained Olivier Roubi, representative of the Federation of Ingrid Betancourt Support Committees.

This offer was also agreed to by the Betancourt family who will also participate in this action, “because it will encourage international support”.

Held hostage since 22 February 2002, Ingrid Betancourt is a key figure in the fight against corruption and drug trafficking in Colombia.
