Juan Carlos Lecompte, the husband of Ingrid Betancourt, the Columbian presidential candidate who was kidnapped by the FARC guerillas, will visit Galway on Wednesday June 29.

Mr Lecompte will hold a press conference in the Lanka Dhama the Fair Trade shop, No 6 Upper Dominick Street at 9.30am. He will be welcomed by Galway City councillors and Maria-Alejandra Gonzalez of the Human Rights Centre in NUI, Galway.

The Galway City Council recently passed a motion to recognise Ingrid's 1,000th day of captivity. Ingrid Betancourt has now been held for 1,209 days by FARC rebels. For more information go to www.betancourt.info
