Nearly 1000 letters have been added to the 10.000 already sent by EU citizens to express solidarity with the families of hostages in Colombia. The partnership between the town of Chambéry and the International Federation of Ingrid Betancourt Committees (FICIB) has enabled the delivery of 4000 letters in August 2005. Today the Federation has just sent another 1000 letters addressed to all the hostages.
EU citizens, as part of the Aeropostale 3000 Campaign asking for freedom for all hostages, military and police, 400 child hostages, 12 Deputies from Calvi, Ingrid Betancourt and Clara Rojas and all the others, have sent more than 11,000 letters.
The letters will be read during "the Fourth International Hostage day" in Bogotá and Cali but they will also be broadcast on a radio programme in Bogotá (Radio Todelar), which is aimed at the hostages.
The "Aeropostale 3000" campaign was launched at the end of 20003 by the International Federation of Ingrid Betancourt Committees (FICIB) to raise awareness in Europe of the serious situation of those 3000 citizens of Colombia who have been deprived of their liberty.
Extracts from letters:
"I hope you will soon experience the freedom to which each person in the world is entitled."
" Have courage, as far as we are concerned, your freedom is vital."
"Freedom always manages to deceive dictators".
"I try to understand your situation although that's not easy to do"
"Have courage, after the night comes the dawn"
"Keep thinking that freedom starts in your mind and that it will free you from your prison"
The Federation invites all those who are working for the liberation of hostages to become associated with our campaign in order to work together.
