Charter for the
Committees :
Adhesion to the following
charter is the only condition required to be part of our network
-
Our goal is the
liberation of Ingrid Betancourt and the other hostages;
-
We defend Human
Rights and Democracy and we should not get involved with
organizations or individuals who do not share these values. .
Specifically, we are fighting for :
-
an effective peace
process in Colombia;
-
the liberation of
all detained people
-
the respect of Human
and Children’s Rights
-
the end of impunity
for authors, instigators and accomplices of Human Rights
violations and massacres of civilian population, whoever they
are and whichever organization they belong to
-
the installation of
an effective Rule of Law in Colombia
-
We do not support any
political party in particular (nor in Colombia, nor elsewhere)
and our movement has to be clearly separated from politics. We are
fighting for the liberation of Ingrid, Clara, and the other
detained people, without taking a stance on their ideas or the
organisations to which they belong
-
We are not bound to
any religious or philosophical organization
-
We want to show our
active support with members of the families of Ingrid, Clara and the
other hostages but we work independently from any private or
familial interest of any family.
In order to be more
effective in our actions,
The members and officials undertake:
-
To establish
effective contacts with local media and elected representatives
of the 'district' they cover (town, village or county), to inform
them regularly about the situation of Ingrid and the other hostages,
and to ask for their support;
-
To concentrate their
initiatives on collective actions (information campaign, "Honorary
Citizen" and the "Aeropostale-3000") and to
participate as far as possible in activities recommended from time
to time by the co-ordinating committee*;.
-
To consult with the
co-ordinating committee* before undertaking actions that involve
national politicians, official representatives of Colombia or
national media, as well as activities the scope of which extends
beyond the 'territory' they cover;
-
To establish the
greatest coordination possible with all the other committees in
the network by undertaking united rather than isolated actions;
-
To share all sources
of information or contacts that could be useful to the network;
-
To help to strengthen
the network of committees in the country or in other countries
when the opportunity arises.
