"Mama Yolanda" is the mother of 12,000 children whom she has rescued from poverty in Bogotá…

In 1958, when she had just been crowned Beauty Queen, Yolanda decided to use the monies won through the competition to rescue street children who had left home due to physical and psychological abuse: she founded l'Albergue Infantil (Hostels for Children) of Bogotá. 

45 years later, Yolanda and the staff of the Hostels have rescued more than 12,000 children from extreme poverty!

At the moment, the Albergue houses 120 children aged from 7 to 18 years divided among 5 houses called San Juan, San Rafael, Mandalay, San Jorge and the Junior House…

Now aged 65 and campaigning every day to have her daughter Ingrid, who is held hostage, freed, Yolanda continues her efforts to collect monies that will allow her to maintain these five Hostels for Children.
